Welcome to the Asian-Pacific Association of Echocardiography (AAE) ! Echocardiography has become an essential diagnostic and management tool for patients with various cardiovascular conditions, with its reliable capacity to assess cardiac structure, function, and hemodynamics. Asian-Pacific community has contributed significantly to the development of Echocardiography since its early stage.
Initial description of mitral inflow velocity for diastolic function, introduction of color flow imaging, diastolic exercise echocardiography, strain imaging of the left atrium as well as left ventricle, echocardiographic features of constrictive pericarditis, descriptions of various cardiomyopathies, vector imaging , normal echocardiographic values of Asians, and assessment of coronary flow reserve are examples of contributions from the Asian-Pacific investigators. At the same time, there is a great need to propagate optimal use of Echocardiography by a wide=spread training and also to collaborate further to investigate conditions common or unique to the Asian-Pacific region. To facilitate these goals of Echocardiographic training and research collaboration in Asian-Pacific region, Professors J. Yoshikawa, C. Tei, Y. Zhang , and JH Bae founded AAE in 2013. The first AAE meeting was held in Beijing, China and since then, AAE has conducted annual meeting (Echo Asia) in Korea, Japan, Hong Kong, Australia, Singapore, and Taiwan with a plan to hold future meetings in different historical and beautiful locations in Asian-Pacific region including Philippine in September 2024. During a short period of existence, AAE has become an internationally recognized organization with several joint sessions with European Association of Cardiovascular Imaging and as an International alliance member of American Society of Echocardiography. AAE members have published an excellent review paper on “Echocardiographic Imaging in Transcatheter Structural Intervention: An AAE Review Paper in JACC Asia. 2023 Jul 25;3(4):556-579.
On behalf of the entire AAE community, I like to encourage your membership and participation in this remarkable organization that will bring a life -long friendship, carrier development, collaborative innovations, and the best of all, optimal care of our patients.
Sincerely,
Jae K. Oh, MD
